The Enduring Mystery of Richard "Peewee" Marlow

A Child Vanished. A Mystery Endures.

Seventy-nine years ago on on July 18, 1944, nine-year-old Richard “Peewee” Marlow was last seen on south Etobicoke’s Beta Street in south west Toronto. That February night, most of the Marlow family had gone to see a movie. Richard had seen the picture the night before and opted to stay home with his older brother Gerald. Richard went outside to ride his sister’s bicycle He hasn't been seen since. 

Both Etobicoke Police and the army militia were called in to conduct searches to no avail; as Etobicoke Creek was dredged with no result; and as family members, neighbours and friends combed the area, but found no sign of the little boy who was nicknamed ‘Peewee’ because, at just 3’8” and 50 pounds, he was so small for his age. 

When he went missing, Richard, had blond hair, blue eyes, and a scar on his right temple by the hairline, and was last seen wearing a dark blue windbreaker, long blue pants, a striped jersey, and gray cotton stockings with a yellow band around the top. The boy also wore an aluminium ring with the initials K.L. on his hand. The bicycle he rode was left behind in the yard. 

As of August 2019, none of Richard’s siblings were alive. Thankfully, before this Toronto police had gathered DNA samples for the National Centre for Missing Persons and Unidentified Remains.

Because every case deserves answers—and every victim deserves justice.
