On Tuesday, May 15, 1973, with her 27th birthday in two weeks, she met a girlfriend for coffee. She was attractive and popular among staff and students. It felt safe on campus. One female student often slept overnight in her graduate office. Adele was at her desk on the fifth floor working on her thesis until about 11 p.m. Adele picked up her purse and umbrella.
